Medical Receptionist

Job Description

We provide a wide range of services to help support the medical needs of our patients. We are committed to providing continuous care to our patients, from infants to the elderly, with an emphasis on preventative treatment. Our administrative staff is committed to providing patient-centred service. Patients can expect polite, friendly helpful staff members to assist them with their needs.

Primary Reception Responsibilities

  • Open/Close office
  • Review and action any phone messages
  • Start-up/shut down computer systems & EMR
  • Unlock/locks waiting room and ensures it is presentable
  • Opens and triages all mail/emails/faxes –scan all patient related documents to charts
  • Answers and triages all incoming calls to appropriate staff (prioritize private line)
  • Schedule appointments appropriately based on Triage Chart, and appropriate time allotments
  • Welcome and register all patients as they arrive in a professional and courteous manner
  • Verify health card and follow through on any requirements to ensure health card validity as well as ensuring all key patient information is obtained and updated. ‘Check In’ patient
  • Handle all ‘out-going’ patient tasks on discharge (ie: follow-up appts)
  • Scanning
  • Check EMR messages and reconcile daily
  • Ensure documentation of all interaction in patient chart
  • Manage/follow-up ‘Patient Pick-up” file weekly
  • Monitor inventory levels of office supplies
  • Maintain necessary levels of paper, forms etc…

Requirements- Essential

Requirements- Preferred

  • Completion of relevant health-related community college program (ie Medical Office Assistant, Medical Secretary)
  • Previous experience in a medical environment
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Previous experience with patient booking systems and EMR programs (preferably PS Suite

Medical Record Control Clerk

  • Check EMR messages and reconcile daily
  • Ensure documentation of all interactions in patient chart
  • Manage/follow-up ‘Patient Pick-up” file weekly
  • Ensure all aspects of confidentiality and data protection relating to both RCFHC and individuals are maintained at all times
  • Monitor inventory levels of office supplies
  • Provide back up to reception as needed.

Part-Time RPN/Casual

You are an effective communicator who excels at customer service through excellent listening skills and your desire to put patient’s needs first. You are able to work well under pressure and handle difficult situations while remaining calm.

Duties:

  • Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
  • Current knowledge and experience in IM, subcutaneous injections venipuncture
  • Knowledge of techniques and sterilization processes
  • Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and documentation skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff
  • Ability to work well independently and to exercise sound judgement
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position
  • Exposure to Lean principles, an understanding of methodologies and tools and a commitment to the use of these in support of providing the best healthcare experience possible to our patients
  • Demonstrated pattern of good attendance and work record
